Celebrity wedding planner Lisa Vorce says she’s happiest when she’s on a plane to organize the best future spouses ceremony.
And model Chrissy Teigen and singer John Legend were some of her most famous clients. When Lisa planned the couple’s 2013 Lake Como wedding — they reportedly fell in love while vacationing on the Italian lake years before – Vorce got to know them well. She’s since worked with them on other events, from Chrissy’s baby shower to impromptu dinner parties for their 40 best friends. Ahead, read what it was like for Vorce to plan Chrissy and John’s Italian villa affair, why she hates trends, and what you should really know if you’re invited to a destination wedding.
So, what was it like working with Chrissy and John?
“They’re hilarious. My favorite thing about them is they own their truth and they make no apologies about it…from beauty to politics to how they raise Luna to Chrissy’s eating habits. About planning their wedding, they weren’t fussy or ostentatious at all. They just wanted it to be a really amazing experience for people, and it kind of organically developed. We looked for places all over the world. The historic villa we selected (Villa Pizzo) was perfection”.
“They 100% let me do my thing. I know them very well, and I’m able to tap into their personalities. They’re so all about their family and friends. And they don’t want to show off; they want to celebrate each other. They’re true romantics, too” she added.
“In Lake Como, we created a beautiful alfresco dinner. On the decor side, I don’t even know if Chrissy knew what we were going to do. I was like, I hope they like it when they get there! She cares, of course, but she trusts me. The wedding was our first engagement — after that, it was the baby shower and doing some private events at their home… For those two, I will seriously drop anything”.
Chrissy Teigen is gorgeous. That much is obvious. What it took Twitter to showcase is that Chrissy—model, mother, and wife of Oscar-winning singer-songwriter John Legend—is also hysterical. Her grasp of pop culture and keen eye for social interactions are comedy gold. A few years ago she tweeted, “I always have a note in my pocket that says “john did it” just I case I’m murdered because I don’t want him to remarry #truelove #tips.”
When she was pregnant with her daughter Luna, she wrote, “I need a bikini wax but I feel like I should wait for my epidural because THAT IS GENIUS???” On the way home from the hospital after giving birth, she said, “no one told me I would be coming home in diapers too.”
I’ve always thought the secret to a happy couple was laughter, so when I needed a friend for a speed-dating themed episode of Derek Does Stuff With A Friend, I immediately thought of Chrissy. Here’s the premise: I hid Chrissy in a back room of a restaurant that served as a sort of Cupid’s mission control. It was hooked up to monitors watching a couple on a date, including the one who is wearing a tiny, unnoticeable earpiece and listening to Chrissy give her own brand of original, non-traditional dating tips.
After a few hours of her advising singles at Au Fudge, a new restaurant in West Hollywood, it was clear she wasn’t a good choice. She was great! Not only did she have me nearly rolling on the floor with some of her suggestions for pick-up lines (An example: “I hate babies, don’t you?”), I think more than one of these pairings heard wedding bells. We did this three times: For a man seeking a woman, a woman seeking a man, and finally a man seeking a man. First up: Danny. Watch the video below!
